Shadow DN6 "Good Guys Wear Black" Poster
In 1975, Don Nichols’ Shadow team went F5000 racing with the DN6. As with all Don Nichols’ creations, the DN6 looked the part and was immaculately prepared. By 1976, the DN6 had a power advantage thanks to a Dodge engine transplant, and Shadow ace Jackie Oliver scored a victory at Road America in July. Oliver and the DN6 managed 2 more podiums that season. As F5000 morphed into single-seat Can Am in 1977, Nichols struggled with financing, and the ’76 season proved to be the swan song for the team’s success in North America. Today, the DN6 and several other innovative Shadow creations, complete with spectacular period liveries, are regulars at vintage racing events throughout the country.
