Porsche 936 Poster
The Porsche 936 was created in 1976 as a replacement for the aging 908. A bit of a parts-bin execution, the 936 was created to Group 6 rules, borrowing its chassis design from the dominant 917/30 Can Am car and its engine from the 911 street car (albeit modified for racing and turbocharged). #001 was victorious in a dramatic 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1977 in the hands of Hurley Haywood, Jacky Ickx, and Jurgen Barth. Despite several mishaps, including losing several wing mirrors, the car limped to victory on 5 cylinders. #001 subsequently went on to a lengthy racing career with the factory, and later in private hands. Today, the car is is the only privately-owned example of the 936, and can be seen at historic events in Europe.
