Brabham BT46B Big Fan Poster
The BT46B was the Brabham Team's answer to the domination of the Lotus ground effects machines during the 1978 Formula One season. Designer Gordon Murray placed a huge fan at the back and sealed the entire bottom of the car, creating a vacuum which sucked the car to the ground, dramatically increasing cornering speeds. Niki Lauda drove the BT46B to an easy victory in the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix at Anderstorp. Murray claimed the fan was there to cool the engine, but rival teams protested, and the FIA banned the "fan car" after its victorious debut.
